Requirements

China Adoption Program

  1. The adopters are a married couple (one male and one female) with a stable relationship.
    • If no previous marriages for either applicant, their length of marriage must be a minimum of two years.
    • If either the husband or wife has a previous marriage (but not more than 2), the length of the current marriage must be a minimum of 5 years.
  2. Both the husband and wife must have reached the age of 30 years but be no older than 50.
    • For the adoption of a special needs child, both the husband and wife must be at least 30 but no older than 55.
  3. Both the husband and wife enjoy full physical and mental healthy, and do not have the following conditions:
    • AIDS
    • Mental handicap
    • Infectious disease within infective stage
    • Binocular blindness or binocular parallax or monocular blindness and with no ocular prosthesis
    • Binaural hearing loss or language function loss; adoption of special needs children who have identical conditions will be exempt from this limitation
    • Dysfunction of limbs or trunk caused by impairment, incompleteness, numbness or deformation; severe facial deformation
    • Severe diseases which requires long term treatment and which affect life expectancy, like malignant tumor, lupus erythematosus, nephrosis, epilepsy etc.
    • Post-surgery of major organ transplantation, not yet 10 years
    • Schizophrenia
    • Severe mental disorders like depression, mania, anxiety neurosis which require medication, discontinued not more than 2 years

  4. Either the husband or wife holds a stable occupation.
    • The family annual income reaches $10,000 for each family member, including the prospective adoptee.
    • The family net assets should meet or exceed a value of $80,000
    • The family annual income does not include welfare income such as a relief fund, pension, unemployment insurance or government subsidies, etc.
  5. Both the husband and wife, at a minimum, have high school degrees an/or vocational training at the same level.
  6. The family must consist of no more than 4 children under the age of 18, with a grand total no greater than 5; and the youngest child must be at least 1 year old.
    • Adoption of special needs children will be exempt from the limitation of " no more than 4 children under the age of 18 years"
  7. Both the husband and wife have no criminal history and they have behave honorably with a good moral characters and abide by regulations and laws. Neither one of them:
    • Have a history of domestic violence, sex abuse, abandonment or abuse of children. (even if they are not consequently arrested or incarcerated).
    • Have a history of taking narcotics like opium, morphine, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine etc. and medication for mental diseases which are able to create addiction among human beings.
    • Have a history of alcohol abuse and/or have not remained sober less more than 10 years.
    • The adoption application will be given consideration on a case-by-case basis when either the husband or the wife has less than 3 minor criminal offenses with no severe outcomes; the time for the correction of the wrong has reached 10 years and has less than 5 traffic violations with no severe outcomes.

These regulations are set by China and AAC will comply with these regulations.
